After the Millennium: Contemporary Architecture in Ethiopia
Ethiopia has witnessed explosive growth in the last two decades, with a multitude of transportation and energy projects keeping pace with the rapid expansion in major cities.
On August 26, five leading architects, based in Addis Abbaba and intimately involved with this important work, will discuss how this explosion is changing the country and the region.
The accompanying exhibit, After the Millennium: Contemporary Architecture in Ethiopia, demonstrates the unprecedented collaborative efforts between a broad range of organizations for a wide variety of clients and users. The 26 projects include work built under the patronage of national and regional governments, foreign diplomatic missions, the African Union, universities, commercial concerns, and arts institutions.
Curated by David Rifkind (Florida International University), Dawit Benti and Juergen Strohmayer (Ethiopia Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Planning), the exhibit will be held simultaneously at the Miami Center for Architecture and Design in Miami and the Goethe Institute in Addis Ababa.
